Get cozy, gather your devices, and start celebrating! Here’s how you can do it:

Before you get started: secure your home network

Your new devices will rely on your home network to get connected online – so make sure your Wi-Fi is secure before you get started!

Make sure your Wi-Fi router is safely located in the centre of your home

Change your router’s default username and password to something unique

Create a guest network for your smart devices and visitors

Secure your new devices

✅ Create unique passwords or PINs to protect your devices

✅ Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to add an extra layer of personalized security to your devices

✅ Install anti-virus protection to protect your devices from malicious software

✅ Use a password manager to store all your new (and existing) passwords

✅ Review your devices’ privacy policies and terms of use so you can update your privacy settings if you need to

✅ Make sure auto-lock is enabled (like on a phone, laptop, tablet, or smartwatch) to protect your sensitive information

Make sure your new devices are always updated

✅ Ensure your devices’ operating systems and any apps you use are updated

✅ Enable automatic software updates when available

Personalize your new devices

✅ Uninstall apps you won’t use

✅ Review app permissions and update your security settings if you need to

✅ Protect your privacy by using camera covers

✅ Turn off Bluetooth and location services when you aren’t using your devices
