Time to get excited for Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020!

It’s almost that time of year again. The evenings are getting cooler, the days are getting shorter and the leaves may even be turning a more autumn-like shade of red.

Fall is right around the corner. Which means that – you guessed it – Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020 is almost here!

Get Cyber Safe has some exciting plans for this year’s edition of Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Including…

It’s Device Appreciation Time!a phone with a colourful screen against a background with a smiling emoji, a file folder and a video camera

Our devices love us. They keep us company while we binge-watch the latest show, give us something to do while waiting for video calls to start and help us stay connected to friends and loved ones (even when “staying connected” means trying to figure out who in your group call is making that weird background noise).

Now it’s your chance to return a bit of that love to your devices by making them cyber secure during Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020.

This year we are focusing on Device Appreciation Time  to help all Canadians stay cyber secure. That could mean adopting a strong password for your laptop, setting up your home Wi-Fi properly, or setting up a safe network for your smart speaker.

Throughout Cyber Security Awareness Month, we’ll show you how you can show appreciation for your devices by keeping them as secure as possible.

No more excuses

It’s easy to put off taking action to make yourself more cyber secure. Who wants to take a break from doing fun things on their computer to, say, download a software update?

The problem, though, is that cyber criminals are a constant threat and if you aren’t following cyber security best practices, you may become one of their victims.

Stop making excuses!! Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020 is a great opportunity to adopt some best practices when it comes to cyber security.

Fun with social media

The Get Cyber Safe social channels are already the most informative cyber security accounts on the internet.

But this Cyber Security Awareness Month, we’re stepping things up a notch.

We won’t spoil anything for you (you’ll have to wait until October) but just know that you’ll want to get ready as soon as possible.

We can’t reveal everything about Cyber Security Awareness Month 2020 yet (what would be the surprise in that?). But we can tell you it will be a great time to pay attention to – and get excited about – cyber security.
