Securing your new devices: What to think about when buying a new phone or device

Have you received a new phone or tablet during the holiday season?  Lucky you! Do you know what questions to ask and what to look for when it comes to security?

Many people don’t know this, but smartphones and tablets need protection too. We do almost everything with them—pay bills, listen to music, chat with friends, take pictures, access the Internet and much more. Your devices hold a lot of information like who your friends and contacts are, your calendar appointments, personal photos and even financial information. On top of all that, they can also track your location.

Here are some important questions to ask before you buy or start using your new device:

If you are giving a device as a gift, think about the recipient and what information you can pass on to them about keeping it secure.

By getting informed and taking action early, you can protect yourself or your loved one from the moment the device is activated.
